NKR MP Lernik Hovhannisyan to Tour East Coast, Discuss Recent Developments

NKR MP Lernik Hovannisyan

The Artsakh Fund of the Eastern U.S. together with the Hairenik Association has invited Lernik Hovhannisyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) parliamentary faction in the Nagorno-Karabagh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) to tour the Armenian communities in the East Coast and give an account of the recent developments in Artsakh. Hovhannisyan’s tour will take him to New Jersey, Illinois, New York, Washington DC, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Michigan. (See dates below)

The Artsakh Fund, in collaboration with the Tufenkian Foundation, is working on the development and expansion of Arajamugh village in Artsakh. The goal of the project is to expand the Arajamugh village to include 50 homes, complete with a kindergarten and a cultural center to serve as a model village.

Hovhannisyan was born in the Karintak village in Shoushi in 1973. After studying at the local secondary school, he continued his studies at the Khrimian Hayrik school and graduated from the Yerevan State University’s History Department in 1996.

Hovhannisyan has served in the 52nd battalion of the NKR Defense Army and took part in a series of military operations. In 2000, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Artsakh State University; from 1999 to 2003, he worked at the university’s Department of History as senior lecturer on Ethnography and Armenian History.

In 2013, Hovhannisyan was appointed NKR Deputy Minister of»Culture»and Youth Affairs and was elected to the NKR parliament in 2015 as a member of the parliamentary faction of the ARF. Since being elected, he has served as deputy chair of the parliament’s Standing Committee on Defense, National Security, and Law Enforcement Affairs.

Hovhannisyan is the author of ten scientific papers and eight maps and currently runs Artsakh Public Television’s “Mer Yerkir” series. He is married and has three children.
