STEPANAKERT (A.W.)—Azerbaijani Special Forces attacked Armenian positions in the northern part of the contact line near Gyulistan on March 19, the Nagorno-Karabagh (NKR) Defense Ministry reported. NKR Defense Army privates Hakob Khachatryan (born in 1996), Edward Hayrapetyan (born in 1995), and Arshak Harutyunyan (born in 1995) were killed in the attack. Four soldiers on the Armenian side were also wounded in the raid, which took place at around 08:30 a.m.
The fighting lasted approximately two hours, after which the Azerbaijani forces retreated, according to the Defense Ministry.
This latest attack comes about two weeks after the Artsakh Defense Army conducted
two overnight raids on March 6, aimed at thwarting recent Azerbaijani ceasefire violations at different points on the contact line.
Previously, on Feb. 28, an Azerbaijani Army raid along the northeastern portion of the line of contact resulted in the death of Artak Aghekyan and Hayk Baroyan, two Armenian servicemen of the Artsakh Defense Army.
2014 was the
bloodiest year in the Nagorno-Karabagh conflict since the 1990’s.
