Post Public Briefing on Syria Held in Watertown

WATERTOWN, Mass.—On Sun., Aug. 16, a public briefing was held at the St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church Hall in Watertown about the Syrian-Armenian community and the relief efforts being carried out by Armenian organizations in Syria. The event was organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Boston “Sardarabad” Gomideh»together with the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) “Leona Sassouni” and “Shushi” Chapters and the St. Stephen’s Church.

Rev. Archpriest Antranig Baljian opened the discussion by inviting ARS Central Executive Board member Zepure E. Reisian to present the briefing. Reisian, who was visiting from Aleppo, talked about the current situation of the Syrian-Armenian community in great detail, and highlighted the work carried out by various Armenian organizations, in particular the ARS.

Closing remarks were delivered by ARF “Sardarabad” Gomideh chairman Hovannes Janessian, who thanked Reisian and attendees for their financial and moral support.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria more than four years ago, the ARS has»committed»to providing unconditional support to Syria’s Armenian population and has initiated various relief efforts and humanitarian projects through its worldwide chapters.

The ARS Eastern USA recently launched the “Sponsor a Syrian-Armenian Family”»program»to assist Syrian-Armenian families in need. The program calls for donations of any amount to distribute basic needs like food, water, safe shelter, baby formula, clothing, and utilities.

Attendees of the Aug. 16 briefing raised $3,550 to aid the Syrian-Armenian community.
