BERLIN, Germany (A.W.)—German-Armenian boxer Arthur Abraham captured the World Boxing Organization (WBO) International Super Middleweight title on July 16, after defeating Norwegian boxer Tim Robin Lihaug by an 8th round knockout in Berlin. Abraham, 36, knocked a “very tired looking Lihaug” down with a hard left-right combination, reported Jim Dower of Boxing News 24.

Abraham, nicknamed “King Arthur,”»is now able to challenge for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight title against the winner of the fight between WBA champion Giovanni De Carolis and Tyron Zeuge.

Abraham was born in Yerevan in 1980 to parents Grigor and Sylvia Abrahamyan. He moved to Germany with his family at the age of 15 and showed an interest in cycling as a teenager, but later transitioned to boxing. He boxed as an amateur in Bamberg and later in Nuremberg, and was the International Junior Welterweight German Champion in 1997 and a three time Senior Light Middleweight Armenian Champion in 2000, 2001, and 2002. His final amateur record was 81-3-6 (48 knockouts).

He is a former two-time WBO Super-Middleweight champion and a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight champion, having made ten successful defenses of the latter (the fourth most in middleweight history).
