“Please be informed that today the Board’s session has been held in the Prosecutor General’s Office led by Prosecutor General Kostanian. He informed the Board members that due to healthcare problems he asked the Armenian President to accept his resignation from the Prosecutor General’s post,” read a part of the statement.

The statement also said that the official announcement will be released by the Prosecutor General’s office soon.

Kostanian informed the other senior prosecutors of his resignation during a meeting held in the office of the Prosecutor-General in Yerevan. Kostanian first became Prosecutor General in 2013 at the age of 35, after being nominated by President Sarkisian. Before serving as Prosecutor General, Kostanian had put in many years of service as Armenia’s chief military prosecutor, a legal assistant to President Sarkisian, and also a deputy Minister of Justice.
