In her opening remarks, Chair of the Hamazkayin New York chapter, Asdghig Sevag, said that the choir was formed last November with the direct support of the spiritual leaders of the St. Illuminator’s Armenian Apostolic Cathedral and the St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, as well as the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) “Armen Garo” Gomideh. She also thanked the parents of the choir members for their dedication and commitment to the project.

The choir is led by tenor Kevork Hadjian. Born in Anjar, Lebanon, in 1971, Hadjian studied at the “Parsegh Ganachian” musical institute of Lebanon’s Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society and previously conducted the children’s chorus of Anjar’s “Harach” college, which won first place in the “Parsegh Ganachian” competition among 14 choruses of Armenian schools. He has performed with the “Shnorhali” Chorus of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, “Kousan” Chorus, “Gomidas” Chorus, and “Fayha” Chorus of Tripoli, among others. He has also performed solo concerts in Lebanon, Syria, Bulgaria, Kuwait, Armenia, Artsakh, Cyprus, Canada, and across the United States. He has given multiple concerts to Armenian troops serving on the front lines in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh Republic/NKR) and in Armenian border towns.

Soloists included Sarine Zeitlian, Ann Marie Hazarian, Anahid Injigulian, Bedros Hovannisian, Tro Torosian, and Lori Trtryan. As a finale, the choir performed Edgar Hovannisian’s classic, “Yerevan Erebuni“.
