Большинство истинных ценителей джаза уже поставили крест на саксофонисте Кенни Джи из-за его склонности к бездушной музыке. Тем не менее его спокойный, мягкий, "современный" джазовый стиль сделал его наиболее коммерчески успешным инструменталистом в истории звукозаписи.

Горелик взял в руки саксофон ещё будучи ребёнком, после того, как увидел этот инструмент у музыканта на знаменитом Шоу Эда Салливана. Хотя он начал играть на альт-саксофоне, учился также на тенор-саксофоне, однако сопрано-саксофон, в действительности, стал его знаковым инструментом.
